Instagram for business? That’s right. The visual social platform has taken off and is one of the best sources for social engagement and brand awareness out there. While it’s commonly thought of as a way to share pictures of food or selfies it’s proven to be a diverse platform used to evolve business brands and social following. In this post we’ll take a deep dive on creating an Instagram page for your business.
If you’ve never given it any thought than continue to read on. If you’ve got a page set up it won’t hurt to get a refresher on the basics. Let’s dive in!
The anatomy of an Instagram page
Instagram is a pretty simple platform though there are a few things to call out here when creating an Instagram page for your business. Let’s go through them one by one.
Set your logo
Easy enough right? Be sure to get a high-quality square image to set as the logo for your page. This will be part of the first impression you make to your audience so make sure that it’s not blurry. You want this to be crisp, recognizable, and memorable. You’ll want this version of your logo to be consistent with your other social accounts and primary marketing materials. Using us as an example, we use the abbreviated ‘BT’ logo for social and our business cards with the full site name version of our logo appearing on our website.
Set your bio
Instagram bios are fairly unique in that hashtags in the bios count for a great deal. Utilizing hashtags in your bio can make your page findable, in addition to using hashtags in your posts. We’ll touch more on the value of hashtags as we cover post types on our blog, just know that you should pick a few that are relevant to your brand and mission.
Instagram makes it easy to find trending hashtags by suggesting ones that are popular once you start typing yours in – give it a try with your page and start being found! We choose ones like #digitalmarketing and #contentmarketing as that’s essentially our bread and butter. Brainstorm a few that seem most relevant to your business offering and brand.
Share high-quality images
This goes without saying. As a visual platform, it’s absolutely crucial that when someone lands on your page they are met with eye-catching photos. You can see from the screenshot above that the interface is extremely simple – there’s not much to look at besides the posts we’ve created. Therefore the images you choose to share are as important as anything when it comes to setting up your page and account as they will be the primary representation of your brand. This is unique as compared to other social media sites, which is one of the reasons I love using Instagram – challenges and all.
Link your Facebook page
You may not know this but Facebook bought Instagram which means integrating the two is pretty straightforward. Logged into Instagram you can connect any page from your Facebook account. If you look up top in our screenshot at the ‘Business Information’ section you’ll see a field named ‘Page’. This is where you can connect a Facebook page, we’ve selected our page ‘Blog Trackr’ so the two accounts are linked. This is a great way to double the impact of your posts.
Creating an Instagram page may seem daunting. It doesn’t have to be though. With a clear and concise bio, a crisp logo, and a slew of high-quality and relevant photos you can have a stellar representation of your brand. The challenge then lies in how to select what to share for posts, we’ll cover that in further detail in another post as we showcase our common post types and the results they generate.
